Dr Dental on Using your dental insurance benefits.

12/23/12

As we draw closer to the end of the year this is a reminder to use your dental benefits.  Many people do receive dental benefits though their employment but still do not visit the dentist and use the benefits they receive.  Also companies will tend to review the employee benefits offer and will normally make changes in the beginning of the year. Therefore it is best to take care of all your dental needs before any changes take place.

Dr Dental, Treatment & Prevention of a Sports Dental Injury.

12/20/12

Athletes lose their teeth every year from playing the sports they love. That is why it is always important to make sure you are protecting your teeth when playing sports.
Sport Injuries to the mouth can be disfiguring, they also can take time away from school and or work.  Dental repair due to sport injuries can also become expensive. Take the time for some preventive dental care when playing sports and use a properly fitted mouth-guard. If you are not waring a mouth-guard that fits correctly it looses the protection benefits.

British scientist warned back in 2010 that dental X-rays given to millions of Britons every year may increase the risk of of thyroid cancer.   Researchers found that patients who had been X-rayed by their dentist at least ten times were more likely to develop the disease.  They warn that X-rays should not be given at check-ups or when registering new patients and that dental X-rays should be only be prescribed when the patient has a specific clinical need.   With rates of thyroid cancer more than doubling in 30 years, the scientists said that the potential dangers of dental X-rays were often overlooked.

Dr Dental, What is partial orthodontic care?

12/06/12

I have been looking into buying either a dental insurance plan or dental discount plan for my orthodontic care.  My current plan though Delta Dental does not cover braces for anyone over the age of 19. I am 25 years old. Almost every plan I’ve looked at has different prices. One for full orthodontic care and one for partial. What exactly is partial? You only get braces on some teeth?

Am I entitled to my orthodontic chart.

12/04/12

I was just wondering if orthodontic care is guided by the same health care regulations that medical care is. More specifically, if I am entitled to my orthodontic charts that are only 3 years old.  I want to know this because the orthodontic dental office I was with does not want to provide me my charts.

I seem to get cold sores at least two to three times a year when I get sick.  I hate having them and it takes a long time for them to go away. In the past I used Orajel Cold sores relief but it really only stop the pain.  Which is good but it did not make it go away any faster.  What is good to use that will make cold sores go away with in a day or two?

Mom is Charged with Neglecting her daughter’s teeth.

11/26/12

In Manatee county policy say that mother neglected to provide her child with needed dental care which then led to sever tooth decay.    The 19 year old mother was arrested on a felony neglect charge.   Her daughter (age not listed) has suffered from tooth pain for over a year, as stated on the police report. The child’s grandmother urged the 19 year old mom to take her child to see a dentist. Although she did finely take her daughter to see the dentist by then the child had had bottle mouth tooth decay common in infants and toddlers.    Since Medicaid coverage would not pay for the treatment she refused to seek any money for the needed dental care through child-support payments from the child’s father.  She also failed to seek another specialist who would accept Medicaid or any other treatments that would be covered, according to the police report.

The Facts about Mercury in dental fillings

11/20/12

Mercury in dental fillings not risky as once thought.  The FDA concludes mercury in dental fillings not risky.  The government declared that silver dental fillings contain too little mercury to harm the millions who’ve had cavities filled with them.  This includes young children, and that only people allergic to mercury need to avoid them.
This was something of an about face for the FDA, which last year settled a lawsuit with anti-mercury activists by posting on its Web site a precaution saying questions remained about whether the small amount of mercury vapor the fillings can release were enough to harm the developing brains of fetuses or the very young.
FDA said its final scientific review ended that concern. Still, the agency did slightly strengthen how it regulates the fillings, urging dentists to provide their patients with a government-written statement detailing the mercury controversy and what science shows.

Make Sure to Protect your Cosmetic Dentistry Work.

11/18/12

Wear your night guard if you have any problems with grinding your teeth while sleeping.

Dr Dental, Sleep Dentistry are there any Safety Issues.

11/16/12

I have major dental fears that keeps me  away from seeing a dentist regularly.  My teeth seem fine but I have not been to a dentist in over three years.  I just can not handle going to the dentist with out freaking out inside.  A few dentist I have seen in the past where not kind to me about my fears so it makes it even harder to see a dentist when needed.   I heard about sleep dentistry and it seems like something for me but I am not sure. Is it safe? Are there any safety issues I should know before going to a dentist for sleep dentistry?  Also is sleep dentistry covered under dental insurance?
