Many makeover shows made people become aware of the dramatic changes that veneers can make on a person smile. Many makeover show commonly use porcelain veneers or laminates for quick results that the show may be looking for.
However veneers may not be the best choice depending on the dental issue at hand. Such as if teeth are not straight, then orthodontics is usually the preferred choice because they do not require irreversibly changing the tooth structure. In order to avoid tooth decay in babies at home dental care habits are important to practice. Many parents put their babies to sleep with a baby bottle as it can help to make thier child fall to sleep easier or faster.
However, by putting a baby to sleep with a bottle, you can harm a baby’s teeth. Sugars from juice, formula, or milk that stay on a baby’s teeth for hours can eat away at the tooth enamel. This can lead to what called “bottle mouth” or “baby bottle tooth decay.” When this happens, the front teeth can get discolored, pocked, and pitted. Cavities might form and, in severe cases, the decayed teeth might need to be pulled.
If you feel that your baby needs to have a baby bottle to fall to sleep then make sure to only have water in it.

Dental care tips for Babies.
- Before your baby starts teething, you will want to run a clean, damp washcloth over the gums to clear away harmful bacteria.
- When your baby start to get teeth, you will want to brush them with an infant toothbrush. Use water and a tiny bit of fluoride toothpaste (about the Size of a Grain of Rice). Use fluoride toothpaste that carries the ADA seal of acceptance.
- When two of your baby’s teeth touch, you can begin flossing between them. This tends to happen around the age of two, your child should learn to spit while brushing. Avoid giving your child water to swish and spit because this can make swallowing toothpaste more likely.
- Kids ages three and up should use only a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. However make sure to always supervise kids younger than eight while brushing, as they are likely to swallow toothpaste.
- Take you baby to see a dentist once they cut their first tooth. Regarl dental visits are a very important part of your child dental health care.

This according to Kathleen Roth, president of the American Dental Association. One-third of preschoolers have never seen a dentist and most parents believe children do not need to see one before they’re three years old. Yet one-quarter of Australian children have tooth decay that requires filling by early primary school. One in ten require an extraction.
In the British Dental Journal, The number of children aged 5 to 9 who were admitted to hospital due to tooth decay has risen for the second consecutive year, according to official figures.
In the US: According to the largest government study of the nation’s dental health in more than 25 years, the prevalence of cavities in the baby teeth of children ages 2 to 5 rose to 28 percent between 1999 and 2004 — up 4 percentage points from the 24 percent rate seen in from 1988 to 1994.

Did you know that more teeth are lost due to gum disease then though tooth decay. Gum disease can strike anyone who neglects their oral hygiene or eats a poor diet. People with alcoholism, malnutrition, or AIDS/HIV infection or who are being treated with steroid drugs or certain cancer chemotherapies have a higher risk of gum disease. Women with tooth or gum problems are also more likely to give birth to premature babies. Seeing a dentist regularly and proper dental care habits are important in reducing your risk of gum disease and tooth loss.

If you ever had your teeth whiten you may know the trick about drinking stain-able drinks such as coffee though a straw in order to maintain you newly whiten teeth. However, drinking sodas, sports/energy drink and juices though a straw is also a good idea in order to help protect your tooth enamel. Many of those types of drinks contain acids, such as citric and phosphoric, that can erode dental enamel, even if they are diet or sugar-free versions. By drinking though a straw you can position it toward the back of mouth limiting the contact the drinks have with your teeth. Therefore helping to preserve the tooth enamel.

Green and Black teas contain polyphenols, antioxidant plant compounds that prevent plaque from adhering to your teeth and help reduce your chances of developing cavities and gum disease. Christine D Wu PhD, who has conducted several studies on tea and oral health care, states tea also has potential for reducing bad breath odor because it inhibits the growth of the bacteria that cause the odor. Many teas also contain fluoride (from the leaves and the water it’s steeped in), which helps protect tooth enamel from decay.

Mercury in dental fillings not risky as once thought.
The FDA concludes mercury in dental fillings not risky. The government declared that silver dental fillings contain too little mercury to harm the millions who’ve had cavities filled with them. This includes young children, and that only people allergic to mercury need to avoid them.
This was something of an about face for the FDA, which last year settled a lawsuit with anti-mercury activists by posting on its Web site a precaution saying questions remained about whether the small amount of mercury vapor the fillings can release were enough to harm the developing brains of fetuses or the very young. FDA said its final scientific review ended that concern.
Still, the agency did slightly strengthen how it regulates the fillings, urging dentists to provide their patients with a government-written statement detailing the mercury controversy and what science shows.

If you notice a lot of bleeding from your gums, it may be because you do not get enough vitamin K. Vitamin K helps your blood clot properly. It is also good for your bones. If you do not get enough through your diet or your body does not absorb it well, it can cause bleeding problems. However, make sure to visit your dentist if you have bleeding gums.
